Well…. kinda. We were very close to having our equipment confiscated and finding ourselves in lock-down for who knows how long (more than likely no longer than 24 hours). As we were in the market area of Yei, an army officer decided to give us a hard time because of our filming. Before we knew it, there were close to 10 SPLA men surrounding us. We explained to them that we had permission to film here and for them to check with their authorities. Communication is one of southern Sudan’s weaknesses. We know this because they called and were told that they had no record of us. This, of course, raised a flag to them and immediately they told us to drive with them to the security office.
